The video-sharing app celebrated its third birthday in August 2017. With a reported 200 million registered users and 60 million MAUs it's steadily competing with the internet's largest social media platforms. 

Musical.ly Inc. was founded by longtime friends Alex Zhu and Luyu Yang. Before launching musical.ly, Zhu and Yang teamed up to build an education social network app, through which users could both teach and learn different subjects through short-form videos (3–5 minutes long).


Musical.ly was a Chinese video social network app for video creation and live broadcasting. The first prototype was released in April 2014, and the official version was launched in August of that year

How it become popular ?

Musically is a social network, on that you can able to message , post videos and get Fans(followers). These features are already available on all social networks then how it becomes popular , the musically has one new feature on which you can act or dub for any audios .

And this feature attracts the teenagers even from 10 age old .They easily understand the feature and start expressing them with acting . And Day  by Day it becomes more popular among the tennagers

On November 9, 2017, Bytedance Technology Co. acquired Musical.ly, Inc for US $1 billion. Bytedance also owns the company Tik Tokand, on August 2nd of 2018, merged Tik Tok with the musical.ly app and kept the name Tik Tok.
